KRA Introduces ID Number Login Option for iTax Users

KRA Introduces ID Number Login Option for iTax Users

Michael ToromeAugust 4, 2025 1:36 pm

Kenya News — The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has made a significant change to its iTax system by allowing individual taxpayers to log in using their National Identity Card (ID) numbers as an alternative to the traditional Personal Identification Number (PIN).

New iTax Login Option Rolled Out

In a media brief issued on Monday, August 4, KRA stated that this new feature is aimed at simplifying access to tax services and enhancing digital user experiences for Kenyans. The authority said the move is in response to taxpayer feedback that ID numbers are easier to remember and more commonly used in daily transactions than PINs.

Improving User Access and Compliance

The ID number login option is expected to make the iTax platform more accessible, particularly for first-time users or those who struggle to recall their KRA PINs. However, KRA emphasized that the PIN login option will remain active alongside the new method.

“By offering an option that aligns with users’ preferences and habits, KRA hopes to reduce friction in accessing services and promote greater uptake of digital tax services,” the agency said.

Part of Broader Tax System Reforms

This development comes as part of broader reforms aimed at modernizing Kenya’s tax administration and enhancing voluntary compliance among taxpayers. The authority believes that such customer-centric changes will eliminate barriers that discourage taxpayers from meeting their obligations.

Through the iTax portal, both individual and corporate taxpayers can file tax returns, make payments, access compliance certificates, and manage other tax-related tasks.

More Changes Expected

KRA has indicated that it will continue engaging the public and making adjustments that reflect taxpayers’ evolving needs. The authority reiterated its commitment to leveraging technology to make taxation simpler and more efficient for all Kenyans.

“KRA will continue to listen to taxpayers and make changes that reflect their needs and experiences,” the statement concluded.
