Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has alleged that the government has withdrawn his official security following his participation in the peaceful protests held in Nairobi on Wednesday, June 25.

MP Says He’s Being Punished for Protesting

In a statement shared on Thursday, June 26, the outspoken lawmaker said his decision to stand with Kenyans during the demonstrations was met with retaliation from the state.

“Yesterday, I stood with the people, not against the nation, but for its future. I exercised my democratic right to protest peacefully against the actions of a government that is failing its citizens. Today, in retaliation, the government has withdrawn my official security,” Babu stated.

Owino: I Won’t Be Silenced

Despite the move, Babu Owino vowed not to back down. He declared that Kenyans remain his true source of security and insisted that the government’s intimidation tactics will not silence him.

“I do not fear intimidation. I will not be silenced. My voice, and the voice of every citizen demanding justice, fairness, and freedom, will only grow louder. Kenyans are my security,” he asserted.

Calls for Unity Amid Political Tension

He also urged Kenyans to remain united and vigilant, emphasizing that elected leaders are accountable to the people and should not threaten citizens or their allies.

“The truth cannot be suppressed. The movement for justice cannot be stopped. We will not back down,” Babu Owino added.

Spotted at June 25 Memorial Protests

The Embakasi East MP was among several public figures seen in the Nairobi CBD during the June 25 demonstrations. The protest marked the first anniversary of the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests, during which several protesters lost their lives.
