Cabinet Drama: Kindiki Tells Off CS Ruku in Embu

Embu, Kenya — Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki caused a stir in Embu over the weekend after openly scolding Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku for publicly complaining about a stalled road project in Siakago.

Kindiki Tells Ruku to Stick to Cabinet Channels

During a public event, CS Ruku appealed to the Deputy President to prioritize development in the area. However, Kindiki sharply rebuked him, accusing the newly appointed Cabinet Secretary of “public incitement.”

“You are now part of the Cabinet. You should not be inciting the public with complaints,” Kindiki said. “Instead, you should be providing solutions within the Cabinet, which is the top decision-making organ of government.”

Kindiki: ‘Respect the President’s Mandate’

The Deputy President further reminded Ruku of the weight his office carries, emphasizing that his new role demands decorum and protocol.

“The President entrusted you with that flag. Respect it. It’s not just a piece of cloth,” Kindiki said, urging the CS to handle such matters internally and avoid airing grievances in public.

Reactions From the Public

The fiery exchange drew mixed reactions, with some Kenyans praising Kindiki for defending government cohesion, while others accused him of stifling legitimate concerns raised by leaders from the grassroots.

Background: Who Is CS Geoffrey Ruku?

Before joining the Cabinet, Geoffrey Ruku served as MP for Mbeere North. During his vetting by the National Assembly, Ruku promised to champion efficient service delivery and fairness in the public sector.

He was appointed Public Service Cabinet Secretary on April 16, 2025, replacing Justin Muturi. Muturi, a former National Assembly Speaker, was moved to another Cabinet role after repeated public disagreements with President Ruto over alleged corruption in the administration.

This public altercation highlights the growing strain within President Ruto’s government as internal divisions and regional demands test the unity of his Cabinet.
