Former Attorney General and National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has received a temporary reprieve after the High Court directed Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to immediately reinstate his security detail.
The court issued a conservatory order prohibiting any interference with Muturi’s security until the next hearing date, a move that comes after claims of unlawful withdrawal of his protection by state authorities.

In a session presided over by Justice Chacha Mwita, the court warned that any attempt to defy the directive would carry legal consequences for those found culpable.
“In the meantime, a conservatory order is hereby issued directing the Inspector General of Police to immediately reinstate and or restore security of Hon. Justin Muturi, and not to withdraw the security or interfere with it in any other manner until June 24, 2025,” read the ruling.

Court Sets Timelines for Submissions
Both parties in the case have been given 14 days to file written submissions, with each side limited to a maximum of 10 pages.
The date for highlighting the submissions has been set for June 24, 2025. Until then, the court emphasized that no disruption to Muturi’s protection is to take place.

Political Undertones and Speculation
The withdrawal of Muturi’s security had sparked political speculation, with analysts questioning whether the move was retaliation for his recent public remarks or political alignment. Muturi previously served as the Attorney General under President William Ruto’s administration before being replaced in a Cabinet reshuffle.
The case is expected to shape the public discourse on the use of state machinery against former officials, and whether due process is being observed in politically sensitive situations.
