Konza City, Kenya – In a dramatic twist to ongoing investigations into the June 25 protests that spiraled into chaos, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested three men suspected of masterminding and mobilizing the violent attacks that left properties destroyed, businesses looted, and citizens injured.

How the Arrest Unfolded
According to a statement released on June 28, 2025, DCI sleuths arrested John Mulingwa Nzau alias Garang, Mark Amiani alias Generali, and Francis Mutunge Mwangi alias Chebukati during an intelligence-led operation in Konza City.
The suspects were apprehended while attempting to escape aboard a Mombasa-bound bus, allegedly en route to the coast to evade police capture.
What the DCI Discovered
Investigators say the trio played central roles in mobilizing goons via social media and other channels, which led to a day of unrest across several towns. Forensic analysis and witness statements linked them to the orchestration of the violence disguised as peaceful demonstrations.
“The actions of these individuals were not only illegal but designed to destabilize peace,” read part of the DCI’s official statement.
Proof Linking the Trio to Chaos
Digital footprints retrieved by forensic experts, including posts and private messages on platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp, reportedly showed their involvement in mobilization efforts for the June 25 mayhem.
DCI said the suspects were planning to regroup at a coastal hideout before being intercepted.
Intent to Incite Violence
“Their conduct beat the logic and intention of Kenyans who wanted to protest peacefully,” added the DCI. “Instead, they orchestrated violence, theft, and destruction under the guise of constitutional freedoms.”
The protests resulted in multiple injuries and major financial losses, particularly for small businesses targeted during the unrest.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigations
The three suspects are expected to be arraigned in court on Monday. Authorities have confirmed that more individuals have been identified and are currently under investigation.
“Efforts are underway to ensure all those involved in inciting or executing the June 25 violence face full legal consequences,” the DCI said, reiterating its commitment to maintaining national peace and order.
DCI Urges Public Support
The investigative agency also appealed to the public to report any suspicious individuals or social media posts that could indicate planned violence or incitement.
“We must all work together to prevent future occurrences of such coordinated violence,” the DCI concluded.
