According to a statement issued on Monday, of the investigations completed so far by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), eight cases are under final internal review, four are in the report-writing stage before submission to the Office of the DPP (ODPP) for independent assessment, two were closed internally, four have already been forwarded to the ODPP for review, and three were concluded based on ODPP directives.
Among the 60 reported deaths linked to the protests, IPOA recorded fatalities in several regions: eight in Nyeri, six in Kakamega, six in Kisumu, four in Nakuru, three in Eldoret, three in Mombasa, and one in Meru.
In addition to the deaths, the Authority documented 233 cases of injuries sustained during the demonstrations, with 191 cases still under active investigation. Meanwhile, 42 injury cases were closed internally, and two were submitted to the ODPP for further action.

However, IPOA highlighted challenges in conducting thorough investigations, citing instances where police officers and potential witnesses have refused to cooperate, hindering the overall progress of some cases.
The probe into these serious allegations underscores the growing concern over police conduct during youth-led demonstrations, with human rights advocates calling for greater accountability and justice for the victims.
