Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua reportedly evades arrest in dramatic police operation across Nairobi and Nyeri.

Gachagua Dodges Arrest in Dramatic Late Night Escape

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua went into hiding on Sunday night after learning he was the target of a major police operation. Reports indicate he slipped away from Murang’a and drove to his rural home in Wamunyoro, Nyeri, just before law enforcement launched a coordinated search in both Nairobi and Nyeri.

Police Siege in Karen and Wamunyoro Homes

According to his legal team, Gachagua’s homes in Karen and Wamunyoro were surrounded by heavily armed officers. Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru accused the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) of holding the homes hostage without providing an arrest warrant or official explanation.

Incitement Allegations Surface

Sources close to the investigation say Gachagua is being sought in connection with recent statements deemed inflammatory. He had allegedly warned of post-election violence if the 2027 general election did not favor him. The remarks have drawn bipartisan condemnation.

Government Issues Strong Warnings

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen warned political figures spreading fear and tribal rhetoric that they would face serious consequences. “We won’t allow anyone to burn the country,” he stated during a public event in Nandi County.

Opposition Reacts to Crackdown

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka condemned the police operation, calling it an act of intimidation. “If you want to arrest Gachagua, follow due process,” he urged the authorities, warning against the return of unlawful abductions in political disputes.

What Lies Ahead?

Gachagua’s political future now hangs in the balance as legal pressure mounts. The government insists it is acting in the interest of national stability, while opposition leaders warn of a crackdown on dissent ahead of the 2027 elections.
