The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has confirmed the arrest of three senior officials from the County Government of Trans Nzoia following an incident where EACC officers were obstructed during a lawful operation.

Arrest Confirmed Following Obstruction During Raid
In a statement released on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the EACC revealed that the arrests were carried out in conjunction with DCI detectives and officers from the Integrity Police Station. The officials were accused of obstructing EACC operations during a probe into alleged financial misconduct within the county government.
Officials Apprehended
The arrested individuals include:
- Bernard Muganda – Former MCA, Motosiet Ward
- John Chigi Makhanu – Current MCA, Sinyerere Ward
- Frank Kuyala Wabwire – Protocol Officer in the Governor’s Office
Chigi and Wanjala were dramatically arrested outside the Milimani Law Courts and forcefully taken into custody, drawing public attention.

Obstruction During Natembeya Raid
The arrests stem from a May 19 raid at Governor George Natembeya’s residence in Kitale, where EACC officers were investigating alleged procurement irregularities, bribery, and fraudulent acquisition of Ksh1.46 billion.
According to EACC, the three officials incited members of the public against law enforcement officers, leading to obstruction, physical assault, and the vandalism of five government vehicles worth Ksh12.1 million.
Ongoing Investigations and Court Proceedings
The anti-corruption agency confirmed that 24 additional suspects have already been charged at the Kitale Law Courts in connection with the incident. The latest three will appear in court on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
“EACC affirms that it will not tolerate obstruction of justice or destruction of public property in the execution of its lawful mandate,” read part of the commission’s statement.
