Kiambu, Kenya – The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has recovered Sh12 million in cash and an additional $13,000 (approximately Sh1.7 million) from the residence of Kiambu County Governor Paul Kimani Wamatangi, in connection with a sweeping investigation into a Sh1.5 billion fraud scandal.

Massive Raid Targets Top Kiambu County Officials
According to EACC CEO Abdi Mohamud, the operation was part of a wider crackdown involving raids on homes and offices of at least nine individuals. The suspects include senior Kiambu County officials and contractors linked to the controversial procurement of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system worth Sh230 million.
The individuals under investigation include:

- Nancy Njeri Kirumba – CEC Finance
- Salome Muthoni Wainaina – CEC Lands & Housing
- William Kinyanjui Kimani – Chief Officer Finance
- Phyllis Wanjiru Muiruri – Director, Supply Chain
- Henry Mburu Waweru – Director, Revenue
- Paul Kibe Wangari – Clerical Officer
- Bernard Kabaiku Theuri – Director, M/s Filtronic International Ltd
Details of the Ongoing Investigation
EACC said the probe focuses on allegations of conflict of interest, procurement irregularities, and abuse of office tied to the awarding of the ERP system contract to M/s Filtronic International Limited in the 2022/2023 financial year.
Officials are also investigating claims that some of the county officials received payments amounting to Sh1.5 billion through questionable tenders and fictitious supplies, violating procurement and public finance laws.
Officials Grilled, More Arrests Possible
Governor Wamatangi and the other suspects were taken to EACC offices for interrogation and statement recording. The commission noted that upon completing the investigations, prosecution and recovery measures may be initiated, including the forfeiture of unexplained assets and seizure of corruption proceeds.
The latest developments underscore the government’s push to crack down on graft at county levels, with EACC intensifying efforts to uncover deep-rooted corruption networks across the country.
