Leeds United will entertain offers for Illan Meslier this summer as Daniel Farke plans to sign a new first-choice goalkeeper.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 25-year-old is not longer a part of their long-term plans.
This comes after Meslier was axed from the starting XI in favour of Karl Darlow for their 1-1 draw against Luton following a string of disappointing performances.
Errors throughout the season including those against Portsmouth, Sunderland, Hull City and Preston North End have cost Leeds valuable points in the race for promotion.
Former Leeds shot-stopper Paul Robinson told Football Insider in January that Leeds want to sign a top-class goalkeeper amid concerns about the Frenchman.
Now, they are open to offers for Meslier in an attempt to raise funds which will then be spent on bringing his replacement to Elland Road.
Leeds prepared to sell Illan Meslier to fund new goalkeeper deal
Brown told Football Insider in January that Leeds are working on signing a new goalkeeper, with deals being lined up ahead of the summer transfer window.
Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that Meslier’s exit will facilitate their move to sign a new number one.
“He isn’t going to be a part of their plans for the future,” he told Football Insider.
“From what I hear, Leeds are going to listen to offers for him in the summer.
“Question marks have been raised about him throughout the season because he keeps making mistakes and it’s costing them dearly.
“It has to come to a point where the manager sits him down and says it’s not good enough.
“You look at the successful teams, they’ve all got a top-class goalkeeper, and that goes from the likes of Liverpool and Man City over the years to Burnley at the moment.
“So Leeds are going to see if they can raise some money from him, and then whatever they bring in will go towards signing a new goalkeeper.
“They’ve already been working to identify replacements, and they’ll know who might be available.“
Daniel Farke under pressure after promotion verdict
Meslier’s recent errors have come during a run of shocking form for Leeds, as they are now at risk of missing out on automatic promotion to the Premier League.
Brown told Football Insider that Farke will be sacked by Leeds if they fail to earn promotion after last season’s playoff final defeat to Southampton.
The Whites have won just one of their last six Championship games and have dropped to third place, behind both Burnley and Sheffield United.
This comes after Brown told Football Insider last month that Farke is under increasing pressure at Leeds in the closing stages of the season.
