Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has told residents of his Gusii homeland that he will announce his political direction at the right time.
Speaking during a series of mini-rallies in towns along the Kisii-Sotik Road, Matiang’i said he is currently listening to the people before making any firm decision.
“I thank you for giving me the green light to sit down and engage with other leaders. When the right time comes, I will come back here and tell you what’s next,” he said at Nyansiongo Market, where he was warmly welcomed.
Thousands turned out for his first public tour of Gusii since returning from the U.S., sparking growing speculation about a 2027 presidential run.

What’s Next for Matiang’i?
Matiang’i stopped short of officially declaring his candidacy but promised to return with a clear direction soon. “The time will come, and I will sit down with you so that we agree, as a people, on the way forward,” he said.
He urged unity and encouraged voter registration, echoing biblical language: “Let us move forward together and do all that gives praise to our Father in heaven.”
His strategic stops included Kijauri, Keroka, Keumbu, and Kisii Town, culminating in a major address at Kisii Capital Roundabout before heading back to Kemera in Nyamira.
