Kenya’s Harambee Stars may have fallen short on the pitch, but their debut run at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 has delivered significant financial rewards.

Kenya Knocked Out by Madagascar

The Stars bowed out of the tournament on Friday, August 22, after a dramatic penalty shoot-out loss to Madagascar. The quarterfinal match at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, ended 1-1 in regulation time before Kenya lost 4-3 on penalties.

First-Time Participants Make History

Despite the defeat, Kenya’s first-ever CHAN appearance captured national attention and marked a major milestone for the team. The Harambee Stars impressed throughout the group stages, ultimately earning a spot among Africa’s top eight sides.

Prize Money Boost for Kenyan Football

According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) prize structure, each losing quarterfinalist receives $450,000 – roughly Ksh58.1 million. This payout is expected to benefit both the players and the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) as it plans future tournaments.
