A 29-year-old domestic worker, Fleviar Muhonja Anaya, has been apprehended following the theft of Sh2.2 million from her employer’s residence in Nairobi. The arrest was carried out by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Nairobi Regional Headquarters in collaboration with the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau.

Suspicious Behavior Raises Alarm

The incident unfolded on March 16, 2025, when the employer left Muhonja at home while attending to errands. Later that day, a security guard alerted the employer after spotting the house help leaving the compound with a large carrier bag. When questioned, Muhonja claimed she was on an errand- a statement her employer quickly doubted.

Concerned, the employer tried reaching Muhonja by phone, only to find it switched off. Upon rushing back home, she discovered that Sh2.2 million in cash kept in her bedroom was missing, along with the house help.

Nationwide Manhunt Leads to Arrest

A rapid investigation was launched, and forensic leads helped detectives trace Muhonja to Malava in Kakamega County. She was arrested and taken into custody for interrogation.

Recovery of Stolen Cash and Purchased Items

During questioning, Muhonja led officers to several locations where the stolen money had been stashed. In Kapsoi, Vihiga County, Sh700,000 was recovered from her grandmother’s house. Another search in Kipkaren, Uasin Gishu County, uncovered three metal chain links she had allegedly bought with the stolen cash.

In Nairobi’s South B, Fuata Nyayo estate, detectives seized Sh800,000 hidden in her rented apartment, bringing the total recovery to over Sh1.5 million.

Awaiting Court Proceedings

Muhonja is currently being held at Capitol Hill Police Station, where she is undergoing processing ahead of her arraignment in court. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to account for the entire stolen amount and determine if other accomplices were involved.
