The annual sporting event brought together elite police athletes in a week-long competition featuring disciplines such as athletics, boxing, javelin, handball, darts, and shooting.

This year’s EAPCCO Games carried the theme: “Partnering for Peace and Security in Countering Transnational Organised Crime through Sports.” The message emphasized the role of regional sports engagement in combating threats like terrorism, cybercrime, and cross-border crimes.

Team Kenya put up a stellar performance, clinching a total of 61 medals — 16 gold, 25 silver, and 20 bronze — narrowly missing the top spot to host nation Ethiopia.

IG Kanja expressed pride in the team’s performance, highlighting not only their athletic prowess but also their role in representing Kenya on a diplomatic front. He reminded the officers of the importance of discipline and integrity in both sports and service.

IGP Felix Namuhoranye of Rwanda, current chair of EAPCCO, underscored the need for deepened collaboration among member states to tackle transnational organised crime. He emphasized that partnerships beyond borders are essential in responding to evolving threats.

Following the games, Kenya’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, George Morara Orina, hosted Team Kenya at his residence in Addis Ababa for a celebration and medal presentation ceremony. He lauded their hard work and urged them to keep flying the Kenyan flag high in future international events.
