The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has officially named the five police officers involved in the arrest of the late digital activist Albert Ojwang in Homa Bay County.
Appearing before the Senate, IPOA Vice Chairperson Anne Wanjiku confirmed that the officers were part of the team that apprehended Ojwang on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

According to IPOA’s testimony, the officers involved were:
- Sergeant Sigei
- Sergeant Wesley Kipkorir Kirui
- Police Constable Dennis Kinyoni
- Police Constable Milton Mwanze
- Police Constable Boniface Rapudo
“On the 7th of June at around 8:00 AM, the five officers proceeded to Lida Centre in Homa Bay County and arrested Albert Ojwang at approximately 2:30 PM. He was then taken to Mawego Police Station,” stated Wanjiku.
Ongoing Investigations
Ojwang’s death while in custody has raised serious questions about police accountability and conduct. IPOA is continuing its investigations into the circumstances surrounding his detention and subsequent death.
The Senate has demanded a full report, while Kenyans online are pushing for justice through the hashtag #JusticeForOjwang.
