Is Kenya Arming Sudan’s RSF? Gov’t Responds After Explosive Report

The Kenyan government has strongly denied allegations that it is supplying weapons to Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group accused of war crimes and escalating Sudan’s civil war.

Kenya Reaffirms Commitment to Peace

Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura on Monday dismissed the claims, asserting that Kenya supports the Sudan peace process through IGAD, not by arming any faction.

“The Kenyan government is supporting the peace process in Sudan under IGAD led by the President. Any other assertion is mere conjecture,” Mwaura stated.

He emphasized Kenya’s long-standing diplomatic role in regional stabilization and humanitarian efforts, noting that Kenya recently pledged Ksh256 million in aid to Sudan.

NTV Report Triggers Controversy

The statement comes in the wake of an NTV investigative exposé aired on Sunday, June 15, alleging that ammunition marked as “destined for Kenya” was found in RSF hands.

The RSF has been accused by international rights groups of committing atrocities since Sudan’s civil war reignited in April 2023, leaving over 12 million people displaced and thousands dead.

Kenya Stays Neutral and Open to Dialogue

Mwaura clarified that Kenya does not support either side in the Sudan conflict whether the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) or RSF  and remains open to hosting peace talks.

“We are non-allied and non-partisan. Kenya can host any interested parties to find a lasting solution,” he affirmed.

Peaceful Track Record Amid Regional Instability

Mwaura also reminded the public of Kenya’s consistent position as a regional peace-builder and neutral diplomatic partner in East Africa’s volatile geopolitical landscape.

He urged the media and public to refrain from spreading unverified reports that could undermine ongoing peace processes.

As scrutiny intensifies following the NTV report, the government maintains its innocence. Whether the arms claims gain traction or fade under diplomatic pressure remains to be seen.
