Gachagua Alleges Ruto is Secretly Fueling Sudan War Through Illicit Gold Trade with RSF’s Hemedti
Nairobi, Kenya – In a stunning revelation that could have far-reaching diplomatic consequences, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto of masterminding illicit gold trade dealings with Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) leader, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, popularly known as Hemedti.
Gachagua: “Ruto is the Real RSF Commander”
During an exclusive interview aired on KTN News on Monday night, Gachagua claimed that Ruto has been using Kenya as a financial hub to launder money from Sudanese gold in order to arm RSF militants against the Sudanese army.
“The real commander of RSF is not Hemedti, it is William Ruto. The money from gold is being cleaned through Kenya to buy firearms,” Gachagua said.
Hemedti’s 2023 Visit to Kenya Raises Eyebrows
Gachagua said the connection between Ruto and Hemedti dates back to 2023 when Ruto allegedly pressured him to invite the RSF leader to Kenya, bypassing diplomatic protocol.
“Ruto called me to his office and said only a Vice President can invite a Vice President. He wanted me to invite Hemedti, his business partner disguised as a diplomatic guest,” he said.
Forged Signature, Withdrawn Invitation
When Gachagua reportedly declined to issue another invite citing international sanctions on RSF, he says Ruto responded furiously.
“He told me, ‘Do you know how much I will lose by you not inviting him here?’ Later, my forged signature was used to issue an invite I had to revoke personally,” he revealed.
Call for International Sanctions Against Ruto
Gachagua urged the global community to focus sanctions on Ruto instead of Hemedti. “I am ready to give evidence. Sanctioning Hemedti is pointless. If Ruto is sanctioned, the Sudan crisis will end,” he asserted.
Sudan Retaliates After Kenya Hosts RSF-Affiliated Groups
Gachagua’s remarks follow Kenya’s controversial decision to host RSF-linked individuals in Nairobi, prompting Sudan to suspend all imports from Kenya over security concerns.
