Patrick Bamford’s message on social media received plenty of responses from teammates as he reached a new Leeds milestone.

Leeds returned to the top of the Championship on 8 April with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Middlesbrough, courtesy of Dan James’ decisive goal.

Burnley’s goalless draw with Derby County and Sheffield United’s 1-0 home defeat to Millwall allowed Leeds to leapfrog both in the automatic promotion race, reclaiming top spot as the season approaches its final stretch.

Bamford was introduced in the 73rd minute and found himself at the centre of controversy just four minutes later, when he coolly slotted home what appeared to be a second goal for Leeds—only for it to be ruled out for offside.

Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett criticised the referees for disallowing Bamford’s goal as replays showed the striker had timed his run perfectly.

It wasn’t the only contentious call of the evening. Earlier in the match, Ao Tanaka had a goal chalked off for offside in similar circumstances, again with replays showing he was actually onside.

Despite the frustrating moment, Bamford remained upbeat and marked a personal achievement with a slight dig after the officials ruled out his goal.

Patrick Bamford reaches 200 appearances for Leeds amid future uncertainty

The striker marked his 200th appearance for Leeds with a reflective message on Instagram, writing: “A privilege to make my 200th appearance tonight, great to finish it with 3 points and a goal… We keep going.”

The dig at the end of his caption was understandable, given the frustration of seeing his goal ruled out for offside, despite replays showing he had timed his run perfectly. Had it stood, it would’ve been his first goal for the club since 8 April 2024.

Still, his milestone post was met with plenty of support from teammates. Junior Firpo commented: “It’s just so great to have you back tbf…” while Pascal Struijk left a star emoji in tribute.

Bamford was linked with a Leeds exit in the January transfer window with the striker having just one year left on his deal, but no deal materialised with question marks over his wages.

Patrick Bamford considering Leeds departure as interest grows

Football Insider revealed Bamford is expected to leave Elland Road at the end of the season, with several clubs interested in securing his signature.

The 31-year-old has struggled for regular minutes under Daniel Farke, making just 13 appearances in all competitions this season and failing to start a single Championship game.

After being left out of the squad for 14 league matches, he has now made back-to-back appearances from the bench, offering a glimmer of hope that he can still play a role in Leeds’ push for promotion, before what appears to be an increasingly likely summer exit.
