Karen Nyamu to Embu Residents: Don’t Call Me for Harambees if You Reject Government Programs

Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has cautioned Embu County residents against missing out on government initiatives while continuing to criticize President William Ruto’s administration.

Nyamu Urges Residents to Register for SHA

Speaking in Embu on Friday, February 28, Nyamu emphasized the importance of enrolling in the Social Health Authority (SHA), a government-backed healthcare program initiated by President Ruto.

She urged residents not to let political grievances prevent them from benefiting from essential government services. She warned that those who fail to register for SHA should not seek financial help (harambees) for medical expenses later.

“Even if you are against the government, register for SHA. Don’t let politics stop you from benefiting from government programs,” Nyamu stated.

“When you fall sick, you’ll be on your own. SHA is a world-class program, though it has some initial challenges. But I don’t want to be called for harambees when someone falls ill.”

Her remarks were met with resistance, as some members of the crowd were heard chanting “Hatutaki kusikia” (we don’t want to hear about it).

Growing Opposition to Ruto in Embu

Embu County has increasingly become a hotspot for public dissent against Ruto’s leadership.

Notably, during a funeral service on January 3, 2025, residents refused to listen to a speech by Ruto, which was being delivered by Public Service CS Justin Muturi.

At the time, Billi Mwangi, a local resident, had been missing since his abduction in December 2024, further fueling tensions between the government and Embu residents.

Conclusion

Nyamu’s firm stance highlights the growing political tensions in Embu. As opposition to the Ruto government gains momentum in the region, it remains to be seen how residents will respond to government initiatives like SHA.
