Piloting Starts in July
According to Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok, the pilot phase for the new KEMIS system will commence in July 2025. This initiative will eventually replace the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS), which has been in use for several years.
Why the Shift to KEMIS?
PS Bitok explained that KEMIS is designed to address key inefficiencies in NEMIS. “KEMIS will offer real-time data integration, eliminate duplication, and enhance tracking of learners’ progress across all levels of education,” he stated.
Integration Across All Education Levels
The system will link student data from ECDE, primary, secondary, tertiary institutions, and universities into a centralized database. Bitok emphasized the importance of reliable education data in policy-making, funding allocation, and improving education outcomes.
Data Security and Accessibility
KEMIS is expected to enhance data security while providing easier access for education administrators, policymakers, and parents. The new platform will also help streamline services like capitation, exam registration, and teacher deployment.
