Kenya Met Issues 5-Day Weather Forecast After Rainfall in Parts of the Country
The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a detailed five-day weather outlook covering September 9 to 15.
The update highlights continued rainfall across parts of the country while cautioning that northern and coastal counties may face extreme heat and strong winds.
Rainfall Distribution
Areas within the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Nairobi, and parts of Laikipia will continue experiencing scattered rainfall.
To the west, regions such as Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, and Bungoma are also expected to receive showers.
The Lake Victoria Basin counties Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, and Busia should brace for continued rainfall through the week.
Parts of the Rift Valley, including Nakuru, Baringo, Narok, Kajiado, and sections of Laikipia, are also forecast to see rain.
Temperature & Wind Patterns
In contrast, northern and coastal regions are expected to endure intense heat. Forecast highs include 37°C in Mandera, 36°C in Lodwar, and 35°C in Garissa.
Meanwhile, chilly nights are predicted for Central Highlands and Central Rift Valley, with Nyahururu dropping to 7°C.
Strong southerly and south-easterly winds, exceeding 25 knots (about 46 km/h), are likely along the Coast, South-eastern Lowlands, and parts of northern Kenya.
KMD has urged caution for residents near Kenya’s territorial waters and lowland zones.

- Highlands West of Rift Valley & Lake Victoria Basin: Morning sunshine with afternoon thunderstorms; some areas to receive night showers.
- North-western Kenya (Turkana, Samburu): Mostly sunny days and partly cloudy nights with occasional rainfall.
- Highlands East of Rift Valley (including Nairobi): Cloudy mornings with light rain; sunny intervals followed by scattered evening showers.
- North-eastern Kenya: Hot days, partly cloudy nights; light morning rains possible.
- South-eastern Lowlands: Morning clouds, sunny afternoons, partly cloudy nights.
- Coast: Predominantly sunny, with isolated morning or night showers.
Review of Previous Week
Between September 1 and 7, rainfall was concentrated in the western highlands and Lake Victoria Basin.
Bungoma County recorded the highest 7-day rainfall at 91.2mm (Kibisi Secondary School), while 59.2mm in 24 hours was logged at Eluuya Girls’ Secondary School on September 7.
Temperature extremes were observed with Mandera peaking at 37.4°C, and Nyahururu recording the coldest night at 7.2°C.
