Kimani Ichung’wah, the leader of the Majority side in the National Assembly, was on the receiving end of heckling during a public event on Thursday, April 3, 2025, in Nyandarua County. The incident occurred while he accompanied President William Ruto for the launch of the Last Mile Connectivity project in Ol Kalou Town.

As President Ruto invited Ichung’wah to address the locals in Ol Kalou, the Kikuyu MP was met with chants of disapproval from the crowd, who waved their hands in protest. Despite trying to continue with his speech, Ichung’wah was overpowered by the noise and was eventually forced to hand over the microphone, ending his address prematurely.

The Aftermath of the Heckling Incident

Following the incident, the crowd calmed down after Ichung’wah handed over the microphone. President Ruto then invited the KRA Board Chairperson, Ndiritu Muriithi, to address the audience, signaling the end of the disruption.

This incident marked the first heckling occurrence during President Ruto’s 5-day tour of the Mt. Kenya region, which began on April 1, 2025. The President’s tour was aimed at launching several development initiatives in various counties.

Ruto’s Tour and Public Reception

President Ruto started his tour in Laikipia County, where he flagged off the Last Mile Connectivity Program. During the tour, he also officially opened the Ng’arachi Comprehensive School, delivered a school bus to Dr. Wachira Secondary School in Kiamariga, and handed over car wash machines to boda boda operators. In subsequent days, Ruto visited towns like Nanyuki, Nyeri, Meru, and Kirinyaga, where he was met with large crowds and enthusiasm.
