Community Nurse in Custody Over Failed Poisoning Plot
A community health nurse in Kisii County is among three suspects arrested in connection with an attempted murder inside Bosongo Hospital. The nurse, identified as Fiona Mogere, allegedly orchestrated a scheme to poison 82-year-old Jacob Mosetti using a syringe filled with an unknown drug.
How the Plan Was Uncovered
On June 3, two men visited the general ward under suspicious circumstances, reportedly searching for someone but unsure of whom. According to Mosetti, he pointed them to the reception. Unknown to him, they carried a syringe filled with a harmful substance, believed to be intended for him.
Medical Intern Tricked, Then Alerted
The suspects offered a medical intern Ksh10,000 to film himself injecting Mosetti. The intern demanded one of them accompany him for verification, but when they refused, he asked for their phone to record the video. He ultimately raised the alarm, leading to their arrest.
Nurse Fiona Mogere Implicated
Upon interrogation, the two suspects named 25-year-old Fiona Mogere as the mastermind. Police found her with a syringe and a pesticide, suggesting she may have considered suicide. She is under suicide watch at Nyanchua Police Station.
Family Dispute Tied to the Plot
Victim Jacob Mosetti believes the attack stemmed from a long-standing family dispute, where relatives have accused him of witchcraft. “They have never wanted me to succeed,” he said. “But I have never engaged with witch doctors; I am a church elder.”
Next Steps in Investigation
The suspects will remain in custody for 14 days as Kenya Police pursue further investigations into the motive and connections in the shocking Kisii poison plot.
