Makau Mutua Dismisses Claims of Secret Meeting with Rigathi Gachagua
Professor Makau Mutua, a close ally of ODM leader Raila Odinga, has refuted claims that he secretly met with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speculation had emerged that Mutua was in talks with Gachagua, allegedly exploring potential political alliances. However, taking to X (formerly Twitter), the former dean at Buffalo School of Law dismissed the claims as baseless, stating that he has never engaged Gachagua in any capacity.
“Just to set the record straight. I met neither Rigathi Gachagua nor former AG Githu Muigai at Sarvid Gardens yesterday. I’ve never met Mr. Gachagua, and have no such plans,” Mutua clarified.
He went on to criticize those spreading the rumors, labeling them as “idle people” attempting to mislead the public.

Gachagua had previously hinted at a potential alliance with Raila Odinga following his unsuccessful AUC bid. He expressed willingness to support Raila in securing the presidency if the ODM leader agreed to work with him.
However, Raila reportedly declined Gachagua’s overtures, choosing instead to align himself with President Ruto.
