Manchester United’s push for Liam Delap could see them pay a sizeable fee to local rivals Manchester City to bring him to Old Trafford.
Delap‘s short time playing regularly in the Premier League has seen him attract interest from some of the biggest club’s in world football.
With 12 goals and two assists in 33 appearances for a struggling Ipswich side, the 22-year-old is showcasing certain qualities beyond his years, and in turn providing Kieran McKenna with the focal point of his attack.
However, reports suggest that Delap’s time with the Tractor Boys may be short lived, having only joined from Manchester City in a £20million deal last summer [BBC], as the young forward is attracting interest from Manchester United, as well as Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle.
Man United could pay around £8m to Man City to sign Delap
According to Mail Sport, Manchester United have made Delap their top striker target this summer with the 22-year-old’s release clause of around £40m active if Ipswich are relegated from the Premier League.
However, as Man City inserted a 20 per cent sell-on clause as part of Delap’s move to Ipswich, it could force Man United to pay their neighbours around £8m if they sign him.
City also hold a buy-back option on the striker if they want to bring him back to the Etihad, but are reported
It’s also understood that Delap has overtaken Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting Lisbon and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike as the club’s favoured reinforcement in attack.

During Delap’s short spell in the Premier League, he’s proven that he has what it takes to make it at a top club.
The forward’s tenacious style make him a difficult opponent for any defender in the league and a complete contrast to the options Ruben Amorim currently has at Man United.
In comparison to Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee, he nearly matches the pairs goal tally for the season alone, with the United strikers’ having a combined 14 to Delap’s 12.
Couple this with Delap’s willingness to drop deep to link the play, press from the front and his eye for goal, whichever club end up with his services will be better for it.
It remains to be seen whether Man United will firm up their interest the forward this summer, however if they do, then it could be at the expense of paying their local rivals Delap’s sell-on fee.
