Mob Justice Horror: 5 Family Members Killed in Kisii Village Attack
Five members of a single family were brutally lynched by an angry mob on the night of Thursday, April 17, in Metembe village, Masimba Ward, Kisii County. The violent attack followed allegations that the family was behind the recent murder of a local man.
Among those killed were the family’s father and mother. Two other relatives managed to escape the assault. The mob also torched the victims’ homes during the incident, leaving nothing but ashes in their wake.
According to South Masaba Deputy Commissioner Jane Manene, the case is under active investigation. She condemned the mob lynching, emphasizing that such actions are criminal. “Suspects should be surrendered to police for formal probe and action. A team is investigating the murder,” she said.
Police officers arrived in the village early Friday morning to collect evidence and begin inquiries. The bodies of the deceased were transported to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for autopsy and further examination.
Kisii County Police Commander Ronald Kirui confirmed that a team of detectives is pursuing the attackers and is also investigating the earlier murder that led to the mob violence.
Mob justice remains a serious issue in the region, often fueled by frustration and distrust in the justice system. Authorities continue to urge residents to report suspects through proper legal channels instead of resorting to violence.
Authorities Warn Against Mob Justice
Officials reiterated that taking the law into one’s hands is punishable and undermines justice processes. Efforts are underway to dismantle criminal gangs and reduce mob-related incidents in Kisii County.
