Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Mohamed Amin has addressed widespread rumors concerning the possible prosecution of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his alleged involvement in the June 25 protests.

No Summons Issued Yet

Speaking on Monday, June 30, Amin refuted claims circulating on social media that the DCI had already summoned Gachagua for questioning. He stressed that no official summons had been made but emphasized that Gachagua was not exempt from prosecution.

“It is not true that we have summoned Rigathi Gachagua. However, I would like to point out very clearly that he does not enjoy any immunity against prosecution,” Amin said.

Gachagua Not Above the Law

Amin further noted that should investigations uncover any wrongdoing on Gachagua’s part, the law will take its full course.

“If in our investigations he is found to have perpetrated or abetted any criminal activity, then appropriate action will be taken against him,” he affirmed.

Hundreds Arrested Over Protests

The DCI boss also gave an update on the aftermath of the nationwide protests, revealing that 485 suspects have been arrested so far.

Out of the total, 448 individuals have already been charged, while 37 remain in police custody awaiting arraignment.

Protest Charges Include Murder and Robbery

Amin disclosed that several of the arrested individuals face serious charges, including murder, rape, gang rape, robbery with violence, and incitement to violence. Some were also found in possession of stolen firearms used in violent robberies.

“Intelligence reports confirm that some individuals with specific instructions to attack public institutions were ferried in unmarked vehicles. We are following every lead,” he added.

DCI Vows Accountability

Amin concluded by promising that no one would be spared if found culpable, stating that investigations into the chaos and looting would continue until all suspects are brought to justice.
