Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen marked this year’s Labour Day by visiting police officers recovering at Nairobi West Hospital after being injured in the line of duty.
The CS stated that nine officers were injured during recent operations across various regions in Kenya, while another officer sustained injuries while deployed in Haiti. Murkomen also confirmed the unfortunate death of five officers in the course of duty.
“Our security personnel make enormous sacrifices to protect our nation. They deserve every support and appreciation,” Murkomen said. He was accompanied by top-ranking officials including Inspector General Douglas Kanja, Deputy IG Eliud Lagat (KPS), and Deputy IG Gilbert Masengeli (APS).

Government Reforms to Support Police Welfare
Murkomen reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of police officers. These include reforms targeting better working conditions, improved salaries, and comprehensive healthcare coverage.

He highlighted ongoing changes within the National Police Service aimed at professionalizing the force and supporting the physical and mental well-being of officers injured in action.
Ang’ata Barrikoi and MP Were Murder Probed
Addressing the recent Ang’ata Barrikoi incident in Transmara South, the CS disclosed that all senior police officers and the area’s Deputy County Commissioner have been transferred to allow for an impartial investigation.
“We will also extend support to the families of both officers and civilians who were affected,” Murkomen added.
Commenting on the shocking assassination of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, Murkomen confirmed that investigations are progressing swiftly. He assured Kenyans that justice will be served and the killers will be apprehended.
