Nairobi, Kenya – Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has addressed claims that security personnel assigned to former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi were withdrawn without explanation.

Murkomen Says He Has Not Received Official Complaint
Speaking on Tuesday, Murkomen said he had not received any formal complaint from Muturi regarding the withdrawal of his security detail. Muturi had earlier expressed concern that his security was removed without any communication or justification.
Murkomen Denies Political Influence in Security Decisions
The CS dismissed any suggestions that the move was politically motivated. He maintained that such decisions are procedural and within the mandate of the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja.
Security Scale-Down Is Standard, Says CS
Murkomen explained that it is routine practice to reduce or reassign security for individuals once they vacate public office. “It’s normal and it applies to all, even me, if I leave office,” he added.
Muturi Claims Intimidation Over Security Withdrawal
Muturi, who was dismissed as Public Service CS on March 26 following a fallout with President William Ruto, said the two officers assigned to him were ordered not to report for duty on the morning of Tuesday, April 8.
“If this is another attempt to intimidate me, they have dialed yet another wrong number,” Muturi stated.
Muturi Says He’s Entitled to Security Under Law
He insisted that as a former Speaker of the National Assembly, he is entitled to personal security under the Retirement Benefits Act. “They were told not to come to work on the basis that I am fighting the government. But I am entitled to security,” he added.
Murkomen Urges Muturi to Contact IG Kanja
Murkomen concluded by advising Muturi to direct his complaint to the Inspector General if he felt his rights were violated. “That is a simple and small matter that should be handled by the IG. If it’s escalated to me, I will address it as per the law,” he said.
