Series of Alleged Attacks
Gachagua outlined six alarming incidents he says were attempts on his life, starting with an attack on November 28, 2024, during a funeral service in Limuru, Kiambu County. He described how organized gangs vandalized his vehicles, injured mourners, and terrorized the crowd—all while police officers reportedly stood by and watched.
He also referenced a December 28, 2024 incident in Shamata, Nyandarua County, where an inspector of police allegedly launched a teargas canister toward him during another public event.
The third reported incident took place on January 18, 2025, during a prayer rally in Nyeri Town. Gachagua claimed his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, was forced to flee after gangs disrupted the religious gathering. Police in plain clothes allegedly aided the attackers.
On March 23, 2025, Gachagua said gangs disrupted worshippers at ACK St. Peters’ Cathedral in Nyeri, damaging vehicles and intimidating churchgoers. Less than a week later, on March 29, 2025, he alleged that heavily armed officers harassed innocent residents in what he described as a politically motivated crackdown.
The most recent incident occurred on April 6, 2025, at PCEA Kasarani East Parish in Mwiki, Nairobi. According to Gachagua, gangsters armed with machetes stormed the church during a service, creating chaos. He claimed no police officers responded, despite a station being nearby.

Gachagua’s Six Demands to the Inspector General
In response to the escalating threats, Gachagua issued the following six demands to IG Douglas Kanja:
- Immediate arrest and prosecution of all perpetrators involved in the attacks.
- Restoration of his personal security detail.
- Provision of adequate security at all public gatherings he attends.
- Protection of his homes and private properties across the country.
- End of interference with peaceful assemblies and citizen meetings aligned with him.
- Cease trailing and surveilling him and his family using state security agencies, including the National Intelligence Service (NIS).
Gachagua expressed deep concern over what he termed as a deliberate state-sponsored campaign to intimidate and eliminate him, urging the police chief to take immediate action.
What’s Next?
With political temperatures rising and accusations flying, the ball is now in IG Kanja’s court. Kenyans, political observers, and rights groups will be watching closely to see whether the police will take any action to address Gachagua’s claims or investigate the alleged criminal networks behind the reported attacks.
