Mysterious Illness in South Mugirango: Can Urgent Health Advisories Save Lives?

The Ministry of Health has issued five urgent advisories to manage a mysterious illness outbreak in South Mugirango, Kisii County. Working closely with county health officials and other stakeholders, the ministry is implementing enhanced public health education, water treatment interventions, and ongoing disease surveillance to curb the spread of the illness.

 

Swift Response to the Outbreak

In a statement, the Ministry of Health affirmed its commitment to identifying the exact cause of the outbreak and taking measures to protect affected communities.

WHO Joins the Effort

On Monday, March 3, a team from the World Health Organization (WHO) arrived in South Mugirango. Their mission is to assess laboratory capacity, assist in diagnosing the disease, and strengthen local coordination and response efforts.

 

Hospital Admissions and Symptoms

Patients exhibiting symptoms such as severe diarrhea with bloody stools, fever, fatigue, and intense headaches have been admitted to Tabaka Mission Hospital, Nyatike Level Two Hospital, and several private health facilities. Health officials continue to monitor the situation closely as investigations are underway.

 

Authorities are urging the public to follow the advisories and seek immediate medical attention if they experience any of the reported symptoms. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
