Governor Wishes Senator a Speedy Recovery
Governor Kihika opened her remarks by extending well-wishes to her political counterpart. “I want to wish a quick recovery to Senator Tabitha Karanja. I know she is in a hospital in London,” she said.
Political Tension Simmering
Despite her concern, Kihika took the opportunity to criticize Senator Karanja for allegedly attacking her during her maternity leave. “Even if you don’t agree with someone, you are not supposed to kick them when they are down. Children are a blessing from God,” she stated.
The Governor claimed she has no personal issue with the Senator but warned her to focus on her own responsibilities. “I have no problem with her, she just needs to keep to her lane, do her work, as I also do the same.”
Looking Ahead to 2027
Kihika suggested that Karanja’s motives are politically charged. “I know what she wants come 2027, but if you ask me, she is going about it the wrong way. She is going about it a bit personally,” she added.
Senator Karanja Criticizes Kihika’s Absence
Weeks prior, Senator Karanja had criticized Governor Kihika’s extended maternity leave, accusing her of failing to inform the County Assembly and not delegating authority according to Kenyan law. “The people of Nakuru are her true employers. Yet, there is no record of any such notification,” Karanja stated.
She emphasized that her concerns weren’t about the maternity leave itself but about procedural integrity. “Our concern is not that Governor Kihika travelled to give birth, as we are happy for her. The issue is that she has effectively been on leave for months,” she added.
