Mombasa, Kenya – In a major boost to maternal healthcare, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir has unveiled plans for a new Sh50 million maternity facility at Likoni Hospital, supported by the Safaricom Foundation.

During a recent visit to the hospital, Governor Nassir engaged directly with medical staff and patients, gaining critical insights into the facility’s current challenges and gaps in service delivery.

“I had the privilege of working from Likoni Hospital today. I spoke with our dedicated staff and listened to patients’ concerns. I am proud to announce that with the support of the Safaricom Foundation, we are investing Sh50 million in a state-of-the-art maternity unit that will transform maternal healthcare in Likoni,” said Governor Nassir.

The initiative forms part of broader plans to enhance healthcare delivery across Mombasa. The Governor confirmed that the upcoming 2025/2026 county budget will include additional allocations to upgrade infrastructure at Likoni Hospital to cater to the area’s growing population.

Governor Nassir was accompanied on his tour by Likoni MP Hon. Mishi Mboko and Members of County Assembly (MCAs) led by Majority Leader Athman Mwamiri, underlining a united front in improving public health services.
