Fake Notice Triggers Scam Alert
In a statement released on Saturday, April 12, NPS described the alleged recruitment notice as fake and urged Kenyans to avoid falling prey to con artists who exploit such misinformation to defraud job seekers.
The fraudulent document appeared to be an official communication from NPS, listing fake recruitment centers, application procedures, and qualifications. However, the police service confirmed that no such exercise has been scheduled or authorized.
Official Channels Are the Only Source of Truth
The NPS emphasized that all legitimate recruitment exercises will be publicized via official channels, including their website and reputable media outlets.
“Any official recruitment exercise will be duly announced through the Commission’s established and credible communication channels. The public is advised to disregard any unauthorized advertisements and to remain vigilant against potential scams,” the statement read in part.
Similar Scams Targeting Job Seekers
The fake police recruitment notice surfaced just weeks after the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) warned Kenyans about fraudulent interview letters being distributed by scammers. In their statement dated March 28, KFS denied any ongoing job hiring and urged the public to verify information from trusted sources.
“These include the official website (kenyaforestservice.org) and national newspapers. The public is encouraged to confirm with the Service whenever in doubt,” KFS stated.
NPS Urges Vigilance
To prevent further cases of fraud, the NPS has asked Kenyans to report suspicious links or recruitment claims. They reiterated that no recruitment for police constables is currently ongoing.
Citizens are advised to stay alert and avoid giving out personal information or money in exchange for jobs. The NPS continues to monitor social media and other platforms for any misleading posts about recruitment.
