Nyandarua County Assembly Confirms Death

Nyandarua County has been plunged into mourning following the tragic death of Hon. Beth Wahito, a specially elected UDA Member of the County Assembly, who died in a fatal accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.

County Assembly Speaker Wachira Waiganjo confirmed the news on Sunday, June 22, describing Wahito as a fearless trailblazer and devoted public servant.

“It is with deep sadness and shock that we announce the sudden passing of Hon. Beth Wahito from Njabini Kiburu Ward through a tragic road accident,” said Speaker Waiganjo.

Decades of Public Service

Hon. Wahito’s political journey began over 30 years ago when she joined the former Nyandarua County Council as a councillor. She later served in the First and Third County Assemblies as a specially elected MCA, dedicating her life to community empowerment and gender equality in leadership.

“She stepped into leadership at a time when women faced many barriers in politics. She was not afraid to speak up and fought tirelessly for the underserved,” Waiganjo added.

Colleagues Pay Tribute

Kanjiuri Ridge MCA Thuo Gachino, who spent time with Wahito in Naivasha shortly before her death, expressed his grief, recalling her motherly warmth and political wisdom.

“She guided us through her vast experience. I don’t know how we will function without her,” Gachino said.

He shared a poignant moment from their last interaction, noting Wahito’s cryptic final Facebook post:

“‘Ndathii mutitu’—I’m going to the forest. I replied, ‘Geithania mutitu,’ only to later realize she would never return,” Gachino added, visibly shaken.

Legacy of Leadership and Compassion

Speaker Waiganjo described Wahito as a mother figure beyond politics—“a loving mother, grandmother, and a beacon of inspiration.”

“Her warmth, bold spirit, and fearless commitment to service will remain etched in our hearts. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and the people of Kinangop and Njabini Kiburu,” he said.
