Philip Nahashon Aroko Wanted: What He Knows About MP Charles Were’s Murder

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued a nationwide summons for Philip Nahashon Aroko, urging him to report to the nearest police station over the killing of Kasipul Member of Parliament, Charles Ong’ondo Were.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, the DCI termed Aroko as a “person of interest” in the ongoing investigations and declared his surrender as mandatory.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations requests Philip Nahashon Aroko to surrender immediately to the nearest police station. He is a person of interest in the ongoing investigation into the brutal murder of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were,” the statement read.

The agency further appealed to members of the public to share any leads regarding Aroko’s whereabouts, providing toll-free hotlines 999, 112 or 0800 722 203 (#FichuaKwaDCI) for anonymous tips.

Bodyguard and Driver Already in Custody

So far, nine suspects have been arrested in connection with the April 30 assassination. Among them are Were’s bodyguard, Allan Omondi Ogolla, and his driver, Walter Owino, who are suspected to be part of a criminal gang involved in the killing.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen described the incident as a betrayal from close allies. “This was a heinous crime done in a cavalier manner, involving people who ordinarily should have taken good care of him,” he said.

Investigations Into the MP’s Assassination

MP Charles Were was shot dead in a shocking attack during evening traffic along Ngong Road, Nairobi. According to reports, a gunman approached his vehicle and opened fire before escaping on a motorcycle with an accomplice.

Government sources have hinted at significant progress in the case, promising that those involved will face the full force of the law.
