Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dropped a political bombshell, hinting at a possible alliance with ex-Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and other prominent opposition figures. Speaking on Tuesday, April 15, Gachagua said consultations are ongoing to form a new political front aimed at offering alternative leadership for Kenya.
Unity Talks Underway With Key Opposition Leaders
Gachagua confirmed he is in talks with several leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, George Natembeya, and Fred Matiang’i to build a united political force ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We have listened to Kenyans who have said we come together and form a government that would take the country forward. I’m doing that with Kalonzo, Eugene, Natembeya, and Matiang’i. We have a formula to give you good leadership,” Gachagua stated.
Gachagua to Launch New Political Party
On Sunday, April 13, while addressing a crowd in Ngong Town, Gachagua revealed that he had already formed a new political party. He said the main objective of the party is to remove President William Ruto and his allies from power in the 2027 polls.
“We have formed a new political party that we will use to remove President William Ruto and his allies from power; I will officially launch the party in May,” he announced, rallying supporters to attend the launch event.

Matiang’i Endorsed by Jubilee Party
The announcement comes just months after the Jubilee Party endorsed Fred Matiang’i as its presidential flagbearer for 2027. During a meeting in Narok on January 25, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni confirmed that the party would back Matiang’i to take on Ruto.
“Fred Matiang’i is in Jubilee. He worked with the party for 10 years. He is our candidate. We want to ensure he takes over leadership come 2027,” said Kioni.
Push for Minority Leadership
Kioni emphasized the party’s desire to support a candidate from a minority community, noting that Mt. Kenya voters had backed such leaders before and should do so again.
“We want a candidate from a minority community. Let us be united and cast our vote in one basket. The last time we voted for Ruto and others voted for Raila. This time, let us rally behind a new candidate,” Kioni stated.
With the 2027 elections fast approaching, the evolving political alliances could significantly reshape the country’s political landscape, setting the stage for a fierce showdown with the current administration.
