Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has officially introduced a new political outfit, the Democracy For The Citizens Party (DCP), promising to center leadership on listening to Kenyans’ voices and fostering inclusive governance.
Launch Held in Nairobi’s Lavington
The party was unveiled on Thursday, May 15, at its headquarters located on Musa Gitau Road in Lavington, Nairobi. The DCP is branded in neon green and white, which Gachagua said symbolize transparency, renewal, and citizen-centered governance.
“I promised to launch a party that reflects the aspirations of the common mwananchi—and I have delivered. DCP belongs to every Kenyan,” Gachagua declared during the launch.
A Promise of Listening and Inclusion
Speaking to the crowd, Gachagua emphasized the party’s core value: leaders must not just hear but actively listen to citizens’ needs. The party’s slogan, “Skiza Wakenya” (Listen to Kenyans), reflects this ideology.
“This is not just listening for show. It must be intentional, consistent, and purposeful. Under our leadership, no Kenyan will feel ignored or left out,” he said.
Political Heavyweights Show Support
The DCP launch attracted various political leaders, hinting at possible alliances and momentum ahead of the 2027 General Election. Those in attendance included:
- Nyandarua Senator John Methu
- Former Starehe MP Maina Kamanda
- Former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi
- Starehe MP Amos Mwago
- Kirinyaga Woman Rep Njeri Maina
- Embakasi North MP Gakuya Mwangi
- Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo
Gachagua’s Strategic Political Move
As the political landscape heats up ahead of 2027, Gachagua’s move to create a new party signals a shift in strategy, possibly distancing himself from existing alliances. Observers see this as an attempt to build a grassroots-led movement that resonates with ordinary Kenyans, especially from the Mt. Kenya region.
