President Defends Kenya Defence Forces

President William Ruto has strongly urged Kenyans, politicians, and media personalities to refrain from making casual or political remarks about Kenya’s military. Speaking on Wednesday, April 16, during the Cadets Commissioning Parade in Lanet, Nakuru County, Ruto emphasized the sensitive nature of military operations and its crucial role in maintaining national stability.

“I want to urge all Kenyans, leaders, politicians, and journalists alike that our military men and women are the anchor for our stability,” President Ruto stated.

Military Must Be Respected, Says Ruto

In a firm declaration, the Head of State said his administration would continue to defend the military from unwarranted public scrutiny and political commentary.

“My administration and myself, as the Commander-in-Chief, will defend, by all means possible, our military as they guarantee our stability and development,” he added.

Context: Political Remarks on Military Matters

Ruto’s remarks appear to respond to recent public comments by opposition leaders such as Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa, who weighed in on the ongoing investigations into the death of former Chief of Defence Forces, General Francis Ogolla.

In addition, the current Chief of Defence Forces, General Charles Kahariri, faced criticism over comments he made about the controversial “Ruto Must Go” chants, which have gained traction among some political factions and civil movements.

CDF Kahariri Defends Military Neutrality

While speaking at a national conference, CDF Kahariri reminded the public of the military’s constitutional mandate and apolitical stance.

“In the military, one of our core values is that we are apolitical, we don’t support any political side. We defend the Constitution and the government of the day, duly elected by the people,” he said.

He added, “So, when people decide they are tired of this government, yet they voted for it and say ‘must go’, it must be done according to the Constitution.”

Call for National Unity and Discipline

President Ruto’s statements serve as a reminder that military matters are not to be entangled in political disputes or public speculation. As tensions rise over national leadership and political dynamics, the President urged the nation to maintain discipline and respect for the institutions that safeguard the republic.
