President William Ruto has revealed that he is in talks with former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya and his predecessor Mithika Linturi.
Speaking in Meru on Wednesday, April 2, the Head of State assured locals that discussions were already underway with the two leaders and urged patience.
“Last thing, MP John Paul Mwirigi has mentioned that there are two elders in this area, Peter Munya and my friend Mithika Linturi.
I want to confirm that I’m already having talks with these two leaders and we are working on a plan. So just relax, everything is in control,” Ruto stated.
Former Agriculture CSs’ Contributions
Both Munya and Linturi have served as Agriculture Cabinet Secretaries, overseeing various reforms and policies aimed at improving the agricultural sector.

Peter Munya’s Achievements
During his tenure, Munya prioritized reforms in the dairy and tea sectors:
- Directed the New Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC) to increase the price of milk from Ksh25 to Ksh33 per litre.
- Implemented reforms in the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) that increased tea farmers’ earnings by 44.6%.

Mithika Linturi’s Contributions
Linturi, who took office in 2022, focused on modernizing agriculture:
- Unveiled five solar mobile grain dryers in Nakuru County to reduce post-harvest losses.
- Launched the Program to Build Resilience For Food and Nutrition Security (BREFONS) in Baringo County.
- Distributed 2,300 bags of subsidized fertilizer to farmers in January 2024.
Challenges and Impeachment
Despite his contributions, Linturi faced an impeachment motion in May 2024 over issues related to the procurement and distribution of government-subsidized fertilizer. He was dismissed from office in July 2024.
President Ruto’s discussions with Munya and Linturi indicate possible political realignments as his administration seeks to strengthen its support in the Mt Kenya region.
