Khalwale Wants Mutua to Step Aside for Investigations

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has publicly called for the resignation of Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, following allegations of a job scam linked to the government’s Kazi Majuu initiative.

Speaking on Wednesday, May 14, Khalwale emphasized that Mutua’s resignation is necessary to pave the way for a transparent investigation into the allegations raised by jobseekers who claim to have been duped.

“On behalf of the youth who were conned with fake jobs abroad, I demand that Labour CS Alfred Mutua step down to allow for credible investigations,” said Khalwale.

Youth Left Jobless and in Debt

The controversy stems from complaints by several Kenyan youths who claim they were scammed through what appeared to be official overseas job opportunities under the Kazi Majuu program. Many reported going through interviews and medical tests, and paying fees of up to Ksh40,000, only to be left jobless and without refunds.

Mutua: Scam Not Linked to Government Program

In a statement released on Friday, May 2, CS Mutua denied any government involvement in the alleged job scam. He acknowledged that some applicants who were recruited in December 2024 for positions in Qatar had not been deployed, but maintained that such cases were not part of the official government arrangement.

“We have seen cases of fraudulent messages and unauthorized agents exploiting desperate youth. The Ministry is cracking down on such individuals,” read part of Mutua’s statement.

Government Vows Crackdown on Fraudulent Agents

Mutua reassured the public that the Labour Ministry is taking steps to ensure only registered and authorized recruitment agents are involved in job placements. He emphasized that the ministry is committed to protecting Kenyan job seekers from exploitation.

“We will not tolerate the abuse of any Kenyan seeking honest employment. Measures are underway to strengthen safety and transparency in all government job programs,” he added.
