Climax Coach Veers Off Road at Awasi
The ill-fated bus, which was en route to Nairobi from Busia, reportedly veered off the road at Awasi—a known accident hotspot—and plunged into a ditch. Emergency response teams arrived at the scene to assist with rescue operations.

Motorists Association Blames Climax Sacco
The Motorists Association of Kenya strongly condemned Climax Sacco’s management, accusing them of ignoring repeated safety warnings. The group claimed drivers are frequently overworked and that the company often neglects to assign two drivers for long-distance routes—an NTSA requirement.
Recurring Climax Sacco Incidents Raise Alarm
This is not the first time the bus company has made headlines for the wrong reasons. Just a week ago, a Climax bus overturned at Kimende on the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway, injuring over 20 passengers. Witnesses said the driver was speeding despite passengers’ complaints.
Two weeks earlier, another Climax bus collided with a long-distance truck on the Nakuru–Eldoret highway, and in February, a similar incident occurred at Awasi involving the same company, leaving several passengers injured.
Authorities Call for Immediate Action
As investigations continue, NTSA has reiterated the enforcement of the Traffic Act Cap. 403, which mandates that PSVs operating long distances must rotate two qualified drivers.
“We will hold companies accountable if found violating safety guidelines,” an NTSA officer stated.
Calls for Policy Enforcement
Road safety advocates have urged the government to crack down on rogue transport operators, citing an increase in fatal highway crashes attributed to fatigue and speed violations.
This latest crash once again underscores the urgent need for reforms in Kenya’s long-distance transport sector.
