SHA Suspends Multiple Health Facilities Over Alleged Fraud

Why the Suspension Happened

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has suspended several hospitals and clinics across Kenya for alleged fraudulent activities involving the authority. The decision was announced by SHA CEO Mercy Mwangangi through a gazette notice issued on Thursday, August 8.

According to the statement, the affected facilities will not receive any benefits from SHA for the entire suspension period.

“In accordance with the Social Health Insurance Act, 2023, the health facilities listed in the schedule shall not be entitled to any benefit from the Social Health Authority during the period of their suspension,” the notice stated.

What Happens Next?

The Social Health Authority says investigations will continue to determine the extent of the alleged fraud. Affected facilities may only resume operations with SHA benefits if cleared after the probe.
