High Tension as Crowd Confronts Police

Dozens of anti-riot officers were deployed to disperse a crowd of residents who had gathered outside the governor’s Milimani residence to protest the early morning operation. Tension ran high as police attempted to maintain order while EACC officers searched the premises.

DAP-K Party Condemns the Raid

Through an official statement, the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) decried what it termed as “politically motivated intimidation.”

“A heavy contingent of police officers in plain clothes, well masked, have gained access to Governor George Natembeya’s Milimani home in Kitale. Such Moi-era tactics won’t work today. Stop using security apparatus to settle political scores,” the statement read.

Kalonzo Warned of Impending Arrest

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka had on Sunday hinted at the planned raid. Speaking during a public address, Kalonzo warned that authorities were preparing to arrest Natembeya under what he described as false pretenses meant to discredit him politically.

“They plan to arrest the governor, parade him before the public, and later release him without charges,” Kalonzo stated. “We are watching closely to see if they dare go through with it.”

Backdrop of Sugar Mill Protests

The raid comes barely a week after Governor Natembeya led protests opposing the leasing of the Nzoia Sugar Company. He and other demonstrators were tear-gassed during the protest, a move that stirred public outrage.

As the situation develops, the governor’s supporters and political allies are calling for transparency and adherence to due process, insisting that any legal process should be fair and free from political interference.

Natembeya has yet to issue an official statement regarding the raid.
