Turkana, Kenya — The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has uncovered Ksh6.5 million in cash hidden inside the car of Turkana County’s Finance Executive, Michael Eregae Ekidor, during a high-profile raid targeting top county officials.
The Thursday, April 10 operation was part of an ongoing investigation into alleged embezzlement, conflict of interest, and abuse of office involving over Ksh600 million.

Targeted Raid Uncovers Millions in Suspected Corruption Proceeds
According to a statement from the EACC, the raid covered homes and offices of at least 10 high-ranking officials from the Turkana County Government. Among the suspects are CEC members, chief officers, directors, and close associates of the officials.
“Today, Thursday, 10th April 2025, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, upon obtaining search warrants, conducted searches at the residences and offices of suspects, including CECs and other senior officials of the Turkana County Government,” the statement read.

Ksh6.5 Million Discovered in Minister’s Car
During a search targeting Finance CEC Michael Eregae Ekidor, investigators discovered Ksh6.5 million in cash stashed in his vehicle. The EACC suspects the money could be part of proceeds from corrupt deals.
“The operation yielded valuable evidentiary material, including Ksh6.5 million in cash, recovered inside Michael Eregae’s motor vehicle. The money is suspected to be proceeds of corruption,” the agency stated.
More Questions Over Ksh180 Million Linked to County Warden
The anti-graft agency also confirmed that investigations are ongoing into Ksh180 million held in bank accounts tied to a county security warden, Abenyo Amathwel Etiir, and companies believed to be associated with him.
Authorities believe the funds are connected to irregular procurement deals executed during the financial years 2022/23 and 2023/24, where over Ksh600 million is suspected to have been lost.

EACC Vows Accountability and Prosecution
The EACC assured the public that any individuals found culpable will be prosecuted, and the ill-gotten wealth recovered. The commission reiterated its commitment to rooting out corruption within county governments.
“Those found culpable will face prosecution, and all proceeds of corruption will be recovered,” the statement concluded.
