Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is set to remain at Anfield after signing a new contract with the club following months of uncertainty.

The Egypt international could have left on a free this summer, but he has now put pen to paper on a new two-year deal worth £20million a season.

Salah had been heavily linked with a move to Saudi before deciding to extend his stay at Liverpool, having spent the past eight years at Anfield.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider the Merseyside giants could still sell the 32-year-old to Saudi next summer if his performances dip.

Virgil van Dijk is also understood to have agreed a new two-year deal, with his current contract expiring on 30 June.

Football Insider revealed on 11 April Liverpool are well placed to agree multiple signings this summer following their contract breakthrough with Salah and Van Dijk.

Liverpool face ‘huge’ financial hit

Borson revealed Salah and Van Dijk’s new contract will be a “huge” burden on Liverpool’s wage bill, which stood at £386million last season.

He told Football Insider: “They are very big deals that they can do.

“You have already seen that it’s going to cost them something like £20million a season for Salah.

“But you’d be hard pushed to say that it wasn’t a good idea to do it given the shape he’s in, and it’s the same with Van Dijk.

“I would think the wages will be pretty similar as well, so it’s a huge burden from a wage perspective.

“But immediately, they don’t need to go out and try and find replacements in two absolutely critical positions, so they keep the whole spine of the team from this season’s title-winning team and then can add from there.

“They have got two years to plan for what is likely to be the end of Salah. I would think Van Dijk may go on longer at Liverpool.

“The other option, particularly for Salah, is that they sell after season one.

“If there’s any sign of a dip, they do a deal where they recover a huge amount of money from Saudi at the end of the first season of the new two-year contracts, and it works out very well for them.”

Liverpool could agree £30m Ben Doak deal

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider Liverpool are prepared to sell Ben Doak following interest from Everton, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth.

The 19-year-old isn’t expected to break into Slot’s first-team squad and could be allowed to leave if an acceptable offer arrives.

Liverpool will demand £30million to sell Doak this summer after rejecting a £15million bid from Palace in January.

The Scotland international has registered three goals and seven assists in 24 appearances on loan at Middlesbrough this season.
