Nottingham Forest are in the race for Champions League football this season despite their recent dip in form.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side currently sit third in the Premier League table, but several clubs are still in the mix heading into the final few weeks of the season.
There are five Champions League spots on offer to top-flight clubs as England is comfortably clear in Uefa’s coefficient rankings.
Forest’s turnaround comes after they survived relegation last season despite being hit with a four-point deduction for breaching the profit and sustainability rules (PSR) in 2022-23.
Forest posted a record-breaking revenue for 2023-24 after their turnover increased from £155million in 2022-23 to £190million.
Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider they could face a PSR and Uefa issue if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Forest recorded a £100million transfer profit last season, helping them turn their previous £69million loss in 2022-23 into a £10million pre-tax profit.
That was boosted by the sale of Odysseas Vlachodimos to Newcastle United before last summer’s accounting deadline, while Elliot Anderson moved in the opposite direction to the City Ground.

Borson insisted Forest’s numbers could be adjusted by Uefa if they qualify for any of the European competitions.
He told Football Insider: “If they don’t get Champions League, then I think maybe the situation changes because they’re going to have probably some kind of PSR issue.
“Probably some kind of Uefa issue as well if they were to say qualify for the Europa League, where you’re not going to get the Champions League revenue, but you do have a lot of the costs required to compete in that tournament and also compete in the Premier League, so they are going to have to move their wage bill up.
“The other thing about Nottingham Forest is if you have a look at Newcastle’s accounts, you can see the way that Uefa have approached a lot of these player swaps.
“It looks like the Anderson and the Vlachodimos deal has been effectively disallowed by Uefa if you were to look at Newcastle’s results. In the back of there, they explain their profits have been adjusted.
“Now, that would mean that Nottingham Forest’s profits have been adjusted as well, and so that will have a flow-through if they were to qualify for a Uefa competition.
“It will mean that they will be less profitable under Uefa’s terms, so you’d need to be careful about what the numbers might be with Uefa.”
