“She Took My Life”: Laikipia Woman Devastated After Imposter Lands TSC Job, Takes KSh 1.8M Loan
A Kenyan woman, Kairuthi Caroline Kubai, has been left jobless and traumatized after discovering that another individual used her personal documents to fraudulently secure a teaching job with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and took out a hefty loan in her name.
According to Kubai, the imposter identified as Carolyn Makena, allegedly used her academic certificates, ID, TSC number, KRA PIN, and even opened bank accounts in her name to access government employment and borrow KSh 1.8 million from Unison Sacco.
How the Identity Theft Unfolded
In an emotional interview, Kubai narrated how she attended TSC interviews in Laikipia in 2022 and later learned she had been shortlisted—only to discover that someone else was hired under her name.
“The employment letter meant for me was given to the imposter. She worked for 11 months under my identity and even accessed a huge loan. I only discovered the fraud in February this year after finding out about a loan I never took,” she explained.
The revelation led her to file a police report and alert the TSC, which has since launched an internal probe into the impersonation scandal. Makena was later arrested and arraigned in court on April 21.

Locked Out of Employment
Kubai’s biggest concern now is that her identity is still listed in the TSC system under someone else’s employment records. As a result, both public and private schools have declined to hire her.
“Even private schools won’t employ me. When they check my TSC number, it shows I’m already employed. I can’t get a job anywhere until this is resolved,” she lamented.
She suspects internal collusion, stating, “This fraud couldn’t have happened without help. I believe the sub-county director of education, who handed out the job offer, may be involved.”
The case continues as Kubai appeals to the TSC and law enforcement to fully investigate the matter and help restore her professional reputation and livelihood.
