Tragedy as Three-Year-Old Boy Dies After Falling From Fifth-Floor Balcony in Huruma

A three-year-old boy tragically lost his life after falling from the balcony of a fifth-floor apartment in Huruma, Nairobi.

The incident occurred on the evening of Monday, March 3, while the child was playing with his friends on the balcony. According to police and family members, the boy accidentally slipped and fell, landing headfirst on the ground. He died instantly.

Mother’s Devastation and Immediate Response

The boy’s mother, who was inside the house at the time, rushed out after hearing screams from the children. When she reached the ground floor, she found her son lying motionless, with blood oozing from his ears and nose.

Neighbors quickly intervened, rushing the child to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police Investigations Underway

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, with a team of officers visiting the scene to gather details. Nairobi Police Commander George Sedah confirmed that the case is under active investigation. The child’s body has been taken to the mortuary for an autopsy.

Safety Concerns in Residential Buildings

This tragedy highlights growing concerns about safety in Nairobi’s residential apartments, particularly in informal settlements. Many buildings lack adequate safety features such as balcony grills, putting young children at risk.

There have been increasing calls for developers to prioritize safety by installing protective barriers to prevent such accidents. Officials warn that some builders use substandard materials, further endangering residents.
