Kenya Power has issued a statement following the tragic shooting of a security guard, Fred Wamale Wanyonyi, during the anti-government protests on Wednesday, June 25. The incident occurred outside the company’s headquarters, Stima Plaza, along Kolobot Road in Nairobi.

According to the statement, the shooting happened around 4:30 PM when Mr. Wamale, an employee of Hatari Security, was on duty at the entrance. He was quickly rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead on arrival.
“We are deeply saddened to report that Mr. Fred Wamale Wanyonyi, a security guard stationed at our Stima Plaza headquarters, was fatally shot at the entrance of the building at 4:30 pm during the ongoing protests,” read the Kenya Power statement.
Investigation Underway
The company expressed its condolences to the family and confirmed collaboration with authorities to uncover the full details surrounding the incident.
“We regret the unfortunate death of Mr. Wamale and are working with the relevant investigative organs to unearth the circumstances under which the incident occurred. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and colleagues,” Kenya Power added.
Chaos in Nairobi: Officer Injured During Protest Clashes
Elsewhere in Nairobi, a female police officer was injured amid escalating tensions. Video footage showed her being isolated from her team, falling to the ground, and subsequently being attacked by protesters. The attack involved a blunt object, believed to be a stone, and several kicks before the crowd dispersed.
The protest, part of the Gen Z-led demonstrations, saw disruptions in various parts of the city, with businesses closed and public transport limited. Stima Plaza and other key government buildings saw heightened security and crowd control measures.
